Yau Tsim Mong District Marks HK Handover Anniversary with Educational and Cultural Activities

Today (June 29), the Yau Tsim Mong District hosted a vibrant celebration titled “Celebrating the 28th Anniversary of Hong Kong’s Handover and the Fifth Anniversary of the Implementation of the National Security Law — Peace and Joy Day,” held at the Tsim Sha Tsui Kaifong Association Hall.

The Yau Tsim Mong District Care Team, the Yau Tsim Mong District Care Development Fund, various celebration committees within the Yau Tsim Mong District, and the Yau Tsim Mong Parent Academy jointly organized the event. It was co-organized by the Kowloon Federation of Social Service Yau Tsim Mong District Committee, the Federation of Social Service of Yau Tsim Mong, the Yau Tsim Mong Loving Charity Fund, the Yau Tsim Mong Principals’ Association, the Yau Tsim Mong Parents and Teachers Association Federation, and the Kowloon West District Associations.

A wide array of activities took place, including thematic lectures, booth games, a National Security Law exhibition, and cultural performances. These initiatives aimed to promote patriotism and love for Hong Kong, as well as enhance national security education among residents of Yau Tsim Mong District. Through engaging and interactive sessions, residents gained a deeper understanding of the importance of national security, recognizing that a stable and prosperous future depends on collective efforts to safeguard it. The overarching theme was “National Security Guards Our Peaceful Living.”

Mr. Edward Yu, District Officer of Yau Tsim Mong and Commander of the Yau Tsim Mong Care Team, delivered a speech emphasizing that the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law has significantly contributed to the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong. He expressed hope that this peaceful environment would further stimulate the district’s economic growth. Ms. Chen Lifang, Chairperson of the Yau Tsim Mong District Celebration Committee, praised the work of the Care Team, highlighting its role in embodying community unity and mutual support. She called for increased community participation to build a more inclusive and caring Yau Tsim Mong.

Former Hong Kong Legislative Council Chairman and founding chairman of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, Mr. Emily Lau, was invited as a keynote speaker. He shared insights on the overall concept of national security, discussed new directions and policies for implementing national security education in schools, and provided high-level interpretations to deepen public understanding of the National Security Law.

Additionally, Ms. Fung Ying-ying, founder of Xin Xin Listening Education and Culture Ltd., shared her journey from being a Hong Kong Miss to an artist. Her story aimed to guide parents on navigating the challenges of raising children today, focusing on fostering awareness of national security from a family education perspective. She offered advice on how parents can effectively convey correct national security values to their children, promoting collaboration between families and schools. This initiative encourages parents to become positive ambassadors of national security awareness.

Throughout the event, several fun and interactive National Security-themed game booths were set up, allowing residents to learn about and familiarize themselves with the National Security Law in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. The event aimed to promote the importance of national security and patriotism, enhance residents’ understanding of the rule of law, and strengthen community cohesion. It reflected a collective spirit of unity and determination to protect Hong Kong’s future, demonstrating the community’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the city’s stability and prosperity.
