A historic celebration of friendship and sportsmanship unfolded in Hong Kong as the Pakistan-China Friendship Cricket Tournament was held to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
Despite heavy rain, the tournament proved to be a resounding success, bringing together players, dignitaries, community leaders and supporters from Pakistan, China and Hong Kong. The event served as a meaningful tribute to the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China, often described as an “iron brotherhood” built on mutual trust, cooperation and unwavering support.
The tournament was organized by the Pakistan GBA Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong, under the leadership of its Chairman, Mr. Qamar Zaman Minhas, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Pakistan in Hong Kong. The initiative was widely appreciated as a commendable effort to strengthen people-to-people ties and celebrate the historic relationship between the two nations through the unifying spirit of sports.
The occasion was graced by distinguished guests, including H.E. Mr. Riaz Ahmed Shaikh, Consul General of Pakistan in Hong Kong; Legislative Councilor Hon. Mr. Vincent Cheng; District Councilors; community leaders; and members of the Pakistani, Chinese and Hong Kong communities. Their presence added immense prestige to the event and reflected broad support for initiatives promoting friendship, cultural exchange and community engagement.
Teams representing China, Hong Kong and Pakistan participated in the tournament, displaying remarkable passion, discipline, determination and sportsmanship despite the challenging weather conditions. Spectators and organizers praised the players for their commitment and enthusiasm throughout the competition.
In a closely contested final, the Pakistan team emerged as the champion, lifting the Champion Trophy amid applause and celebration. The victory added further excitement to an already memorable occasion.
Speaking after the tournament, the organizers expressed heartfelt gratitude to the distinguished guests, participating teams, volunteers, supporters, and community members who contributed to the event’s success. They emphasized that the tournament was not merely about cricket, but a celebration of the strong bonds that unite the communities of Pakistan, China and Hong Kong.
