Mobile courts today conducted operations in Pirojpur, Gazipur, and Narayanganj districts, taking decisive action against the production, sale, supply, and marketing of prohibited polythene. These operations were carried out in accordance with Section 6(a) of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995 (amended 2010).
A total of three mobile courts were deployed, resulting in fines totaling BDT 35,000 in two cases. Authorities also seized 810 kg of prohibited polythene, two weighing scales, three polythene production machines, and one electricity meter. In Gazipur, an illegal polythene factory was shut down, and its electricity connection was disconnected.
Raising Awareness and Promoting AlternativesAlternatives
During the operations, local shop owners, including several super shop proprietors, and the general public were educated about the harmful effects of using prohibited polythene. They were also warned against future violations of the law.
The Department of Environment’s ongoing enforcement efforts aim to raise public awareness about polythene pollution and encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly alternatives.
