Bangladesh Qualify Directly for the 2028 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Alternative Headlines:

Bangladesh’s women’s cricket team has earned automatic qualification for the 2028 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, following an impressive campaign in the ongoing tournament. The achievement means the Tigresses will not have to compete in the qualifying rounds for the next edition of the global event.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the development in a statement, announcing that the top four teams from each of the two groups in the current Women’s T20 World Cup have secured direct qualification for the 2028 tournament.

From Group 1, Bangladesh, Australia, India, and South Africa have all booked their places in the next World Cup. Bangladesh has won two of its four group-stage matches, defeating Ireland and Pakistan to collect crucial points. The Tigresses are set to face South Africa in their final group match on Sunday.

From Group 2, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies have also qualified automatically. Pakistan, as hosts of the 2028 Women’s T20 World Cup, have secured direct entry to the tournament as well.

Of the remaining three places in the 2028 event, one berth will be awarded to the highest-ranked eligible team in the ICC Women’s T20I Rankings as of July 6. Based on the current standings, Ireland is in the strongest position to claim that spot. The final two places will be determined through the qualification tournament.

Meanwhile, the ICC has also finalized the qualification pathway for the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka next year. In addition to the host nation, the top five teams in the ICC rankings will qualify for the tournament. According to the latest rankings, those teams are Australia, England, India, New Zealand, and South Africa.
