At least 32 people have been killed in attacks by gunmen in remote villages of Nigeria, according to Qatari-based news outlet Al Jazeera on Saturday.
The attacks have further exacerbated the security crisis in northern Nigeria. In the Borga area, assailants on motorcycles raided Tunga-Makiri village, where six people were reported killed and several homes set ablaze, according to local police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun. The exact number of people abducted remains unknown.
The gunmen then moved on to Konkoso village. Local resident Jeremiah Timothy told Reuters that the assault began at dawn with sporadic gunfire. At least 26 people were killed in his village. AFP, citing local sources, reported a higher toll of 38 fatalities in Konkoso, many of whom were shot or beheaded, while the majority of houses were burned down.
A resident of Konkoso reported that gunmen killed his nephew and abducted four women. The attackers subsequently entered Pisa village, where they set fire to a police station and killed one individual. Many residents remain missing.
