On 14 February (Friday), Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a meeting on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
During the meeting, Wang Yi noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump have jointly provided strategic guidance for advancing bilateral relations. He emphasized that both countries should act upon the consensus reached by their leaders and work to ensure that China–U.S. cooperation in 2026 is grounded in mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and mutually beneficial collaboration.
Wang stressed that dialogue is preferable to confrontation, cooperation is better than conflict, and pursuing shared interests is more constructive than engaging in zero-sum competition. With principles of equality, respect, and mutual benefit, the two sides can find effective ways to manage their differences. He added that both countries should work together to expand areas of cooperation, reduce points of friction, and guide bilateral relations toward more stable, healthy, and sustainable development—sending a positive message to the world.
Both sides agreed that the meeting was constructive and productive. They expressed that implementing the decisions of the two heads of state and strengthening dialogue and cooperation across various fields will help stabilize and advance China–U.S. relations.
