Benazir Ahmed’s DBA Degree Suspended Over Irregularities in Admission

The University of Dhaka has suspended the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, citing irregularities in the admission process and failure to meet the minimum academic qualifications.

The decision was made during the university’s most recent Syndicate meeting, where Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan presented the findings of an internal investigation. According to the report, Benazir Ahmed submitted misleading and inconsistent information on his application form. Investigators noted that although the form was filled out in blue ink, the academic qualification section was written in black ink—raising suspicions of deliberate tampering.

Under the university’s DBA program regulations, applicants must have secured at least 50 percent marks in both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. However, the investigation found that Benazir did not meet this minimum criterion.

In response, the Syndicate decided to suspend the degree and formed a high-level, five-member investigation committee to further examine the issue. The committee will be led by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed. Other members include the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Syndicate member Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf, Professor Dr. ABM Shahidul Islam of the Marketing Department, and University Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed, who will serve as the member secretary.

The committee has been asked to submit its final report within 30 working days. Until then, Benazir Ahmed’s doctoral degree will remain invalid.

Benazir Ahmed earned the DBA degree from the Faculty of Business Studies in 2019 and has since been using the title “Dr.” before his name. Following growing concerns over the legitimacy of his degree, the university launched a formal investigation.
