70 Years of China-Nepal Diplomatic Relations: Presidents Exchange Congratulatory Messages

On Friday, August 1, to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nepal, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Nepali President Ram Chandra Paudel exchanged congratulatory messages.

In his message, President Xi stated that over the past seven decades since the establishment of diplomatic ties, despite changes in regional and international circumstances, China and Nepal have always respected one another, engaged in mutually beneficial cooperation, and set an example of peaceful coexistence between countries with different social systems and of varying sizes.

President Xi noted that in recent years, bilateral relations have developed steadily, with growing political trust and expanding cooperation in various fields, including joint efforts in the Belt and Road Initiative. He emphasized that the strategic cooperative partnership between China and Nepal continues to grow stronger.

“I am willing to work with President Paudel, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of our diplomatic ties, to further enhance traditional friendship, deepen exchanges and cooperation across various sectors, and contribute to regional peace and development,” Xi added.

In his message, President Paudel remarked that over the past 70 years, Nepal and China have consistently maintained mutual trust and peaceful coexistence, with their friendship standing the test of time. He described China as a reliable neighbor and development partner, expressing gratitude for China’s longstanding support to Nepal’s development and its respect for Nepal’s sovereignty and independence.

President Paudel reaffirmed Nepal’s firm adherence to the One-China Policy and expressed his eagerness to strengthen cooperation in various fields and work hand in hand with China toward shared peace, progress, and prosperity.

On the same day, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ also exchanged congratulatory messages.
