International conference to recognize Palestinian state in June

An international conference on a two-state solution for Palestine, jointly organized by Saudi Arabia and France, is set to be held in June. A senior Arab League official confirmed the matter on Friday (May 16).

According to a report by Turkey’s Anadolu news agency, Arab League Assistant Secretary-General Hussam Zaki said at a press conference, “The conference on recognizing the Palestinian state will be held from June 17 to 20, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France.”

However, he did not specify the venue of the conference.

This announcement comes at a time when more than 53,000 people have been killed in the Israeli aggression in Gaza so far, most of whom are women and children.

Zaki also said, “The main goal of this conference is to implement a previous resolution of the United Nations General Assembly and accelerate the process of a two-state solution for Palestine-Israel. The conference will also review in depth the political, economic and social aspects of implementing the Palestinian state.

He said, “This conference will be very important and wide-ranging, where the issue of Palestine will be discussed from all angles.”

Zaki expressed hope that the countries participating in the conference will recognize the Palestinian state, which will have a “significant impact” on international politics.

It is worth noting that last April, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France could recognize Palestine within a few months and that this could happen during an international conference to be held in June.
