UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for a permanent and immediate ceasefire in Gaza on Saturday (May 17), following the announcement of the initial phase of Israel’s deadly operation in the besieged Palestinian territory.
The French news agency AFP reported this from Baghdad on Saturday.
“We need a permanent ceasefire now,” Guterres told leaders gathered at the Arab League summit in Baghdad.
“I am deeply concerned by the news of Israel’s ground operation and plans to expand it further,” he said.
