August 27: US Ambassador David Perdue met with Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Beijing on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Wang Yi said that under the leadership of the heads of state of the two countries, China and the United States are working to build a constructive, strategic and stable relationship. He stressed that improving China-US relations requires peaceful coexistence based on mutual respect, mutually beneficial cooperation and the safeguarding of the fundamental interests of the peoples of both countries.
He further said that China-US relations are currently facing various difficulties and challenges. The two sides should focus on positive agendas, make every effort to manage and control differences, minimise factors that could hinder high-level exchanges between the two countries, and comprehensively promote the stable, sound and sustainable development of bilateral relations.
David Perdue said that President Donald Trump’s visit to China in May was fruitful. The two sides are willing to strengthen communication and accelerate cooperation, while making preparations for important high-level exchanges at the next stage. On the basis of mutual respect and equality, they seek to establish a constructive, strategic and stable US-China relationship, he said.
He also expressed condolences on behalf of the United States over the significant loss of life and property caused by recent natural disasters in Xizang.
