At the initiative of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, drives were conducted yesterday in Dhaka and surrounding areas to curb air and environmental pollution.
In Matuail and Aminbazar, several establishments were warned for burning waste. Four mobile courts operated in areas including Matuail, Banani, Kalabagan, Dhanmondi, Lalmatia, and Aminbazar for polluting air with construction materials. A total of three cases were filed, resulting in fines amounting to Tk 26 thousand. Local residents were also informed about the harmful effects of air pollution.
In Barishal’s Lathullabad Bus Stand area, two mobile courts took action against the production, sale, and distribution of banned polythene. One case led to fine and the seizure of 200 kg of polythene. Shopkeepers and the public were urged to stop using polythene.
In Gaibandha, action was taken against illegal brick kilns. Three cases were filed, resulting in fines of Tk 9 lakh. Chimneys of three kilns were demolished, and their operations shut down.
According to the Department of Environment, such drives will continue to combat pollution.
