Another 26 Bangladeshis arrested for protesting in the UAE in support of the anti-discrimination student movement have returned home.
These 26 Bangladeshis returned to the country on an Indigo Air Lines flight on Friday (September 13) at 3:05 PM.
Shariful Hasan, associate director of BRAC’s migration program and youth platform, said that these 26 Bangladeshis have received necessary support from BRAC’s migration program through the immigration welfare desk, including transportation costs.
He said that the Wage Earners Welfare Board and BRAC of the Expatriate Welfare Ministry will work for the economic and social reintegration of these expatriates.
Shariful Hasan said that their needs will be assessed and psycho-social and economic support will be provided as needed.
Last July, 57 Bangladeshis were arrested and punished for protesting in the United Arab Emirates in support of the anti-discrimination student movement.
Later, the chief adviser. President Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the pardon of 57 Bangladeshis at the request of Muhammad Yunus.
Imprisonment of the accused was revoked. Then 31 people returned to the country in three stages. The remaining 26 returned on Friday.
