France forward Kylian Mbappé has added another prestigious accolade to his impressive FIFA World Cup campaign, being named the tournament’s fastest player after already securing the Golden Boot.
According to statistics released by FIFA, Mbappé recorded a top speed of 37.61 km/h, the highest of any player during the tournament.
Although France’s title hopes ended with a 2-0 semifinal defeat to Spain, Mbappé continued his outstanding form by scoring twice in the third-place playoff against England, despite France losing 6-4. His two goals took his tournament tally to 10, comfortably earning him the Golden Boot as the competition’s leading scorer.
With a total of 22 FIFA World Cup goals, Mbappé also surpassed Lionel Messi, moving to the top of the tournament’s all-time scoring chart, according to the published statistics.
The speed rankings further highlighted Mbappé’s exceptional athleticism. His top speed of 37.61 km/h placed him first among all players, ahead of Sweden’s Anthony Elanga, who ranked second with 37.16 km/h. Netherlands defender Micky van de Ven finished third after reaching 36.77 km/h.
France placed two more players in the tournament’s top 10 fastest footballers. Bradley Barcola ranked seventh with a top speed of 36.32 km/h, while Theo Hernández finished ninth after clocking 36.17 km/h.
Australia’s Jordan Bos ranked fourth with 36.67 km/h, while Norway striker Erling Haaland, who plays for Manchester City, completed the top five with a maximum speed of 36.52 km/h.
