Trump removes US national security adviser

US President Donald Trump has removed National Security Advisor Mike Walz from his post, replacing him with Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The US President made the decision at the White House on Thursday (May 1) local time, international media outlet Reuters reported.

In a post on social media, US President Trump said that he will nominate Waltz as the next US ambassador to the United Nations, saying that Waltz has worked hard to put our nation’s interests first.

Recently, Waltz accidentally added a journalist to a group chat about security. Although the president did not fire him at the time, his position was in jeopardy. Since that incident, Waltz has lost his influence.

Meanwhile, Mike Waltz’s assistant, Alex Wong, is stepping down from his position. Alex Wong is an Asia expert who worked on North Korea issues at the State Department during Trump’s first term.

Incidentally, the last time Rubio served as both Secretary of State and National Security Advisor was Henry Kissinger, back in the 1970s.
