State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Arafat said that the government will take all kinds of steps to advance the country’s films.
The state minister said this in the speech of the chief guest at the BFDA award ceremony at the Hall of Fame of Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Saturday (May 11) evening. Bangladesh Film Directors Association (BFDA) has presented this award for the first time for contribution and excellence in various disciplines in recognition of production of full-length Bengali films released in theaters and domestic OTT web films in 2022-2023Organized the event. At this time, the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting also said that film is a very powerful medium. The government will do everything based on dialogue with the stakeholders and their opinions to create an environment to take this medium forward with more strength in Bangladesh. It is possible to bring Bangladesh to the world through film.
He also said that FDC (Film Development Corporation) was started on the initiative of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and through FDC our artists-directors who were involved in films have given their reward. Our films played a huge role in the way forward in the liberation war. After the war of liberation, we played roles in various stages of cinema.
He also said that with the development of technology there have been many changes in the society which are positive changes. These changes have become a challenge in front of us in many cases. These changes are obviously challenging for our films. We need to work on how we can turn this challenge into an opportunity.
The state minister said that cinemas in the country will face problems if they are not financially profitable. If cinema halls are functional and people can be brought to the halls then the problems of cinema can be solved. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given instructions on the construction of cineplexes and multipurpose cinema halls in various places across Bangladesh and how to make them economically viable. Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is working on this.
He also added that good quality films made in the country are beating Hollywood or other countries’ films in the halls of the country. This qualification belongs to the films of this country. Many times producers go outside the country and take modern technical facilities while making Bangladeshi films. Because these facilities are not available in the country. If we can provide these facilities in the country, modernize FDC and other related institutions then FDC and other institutions will benefit commercially. That is why the government is working on making FDC or other such institutions commercially profitable.
