A plane with five people on board has gone missing, Russia’s civil aviation authority Rosaviatsia said. It said the plane went missing in the deep Siberian jungle on Tuesday.
There were five people on board, including two pilots. The Russian news agency TASS reported that the missing plane was an Antonov An-2. It is a single-engine biplane widely produced during the Soviet era, mainly used for agricultural and forestry work.
The plane sent out a distress signal while flying over the forests of the Yakutia region in Russia’s far northeast, the local emergency management ministry said.
Rosaviatsia said the missing plane was conducting aerial surveillance over the forest. A search and rescue plane has already been dispatched to search for the plane, they said in a statement published on the Telegram app.
