Mexico’s 4 plans in response to US tariffs

US President Donald Trump has imposed 25 percent tariffs on Canada and Mexico and 20 percent on China. In response, Canada and China have already announced retaliatory tariffs, but Mexico has not yet made its position clear. However, Mexico is expected to announce its plans on Tuesday. For this, they have prepared four different plans.

According to the BBC, before the 25 percent US tariff on Mexican imports took effect, the country’s President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Monday that her country had decided on a countermeasure.

She said, “In the current situation, we need restraint, calm and patience. We have Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, and even Plan D. We will use them depending on the situation.”

Sheinbaum said she would talk more about Mexico’s response on Tuesday.

China has previously imposed sanctions on three US companies. These include biotech, aerospace and marine engineering companies. In addition, Beijing has announced tariffs of 15 percent and 10 percent on various US products.

On the other hand, in a statement on Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that the Canadian government will impose a 25 percent tariff on 30 billion Canadian dollars of US goods starting Tuesday, and the tariffs on the remaining 125 billion Canadian dollars of goods will take effect within 21 days.
