Israel has launched a massive attack on several Houthi-controlled ports in Yemen. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the attack in a statement.
They said that the infrastructure of the Houthi-controlled ports of Hodeida and As-Salif was destroyed in response to missile and drone attacks on Friday (May 16).
Israel said that dozens of Israeli Air Force aircraft took part in the attack. They included fighter jets, refuelers and reconnaissance aircraft.
The IDF claimed that “these ports are used for weapons transfers and terrorist activities.”
The occupiers’ air force had previously attacked these ports. They also carried out a massive attack on the international airport in the country’s capital, Sanaa. The IDF said that the attack was carried out with the aim of “deepening the damage to the Houthi terrorist capabilities.”
An Israeli military source told Army Radio that they were waiting for US President Donald Trump to end his Middle East tour to launch an attack on the Houthis. The source said that the Houthis have fired at least seven missiles and two drones at Israel since the IDF launched an attack on Yemen on May 6.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened after Friday’s attack that this was “just the beginning.” More attacks would be launched against the Houthis. “We will not sit idly by. We will not let the Houthis harm us. We will attack their leaders. We will destroy the infrastructure through which they are able to launch attacks.”
The Israeli Defense Forces said that it would take a month to repair the damage to the Houthis’ port caused by today’s attack.
