The Indian Army has conducted a military exercise in the area adjacent to the Farakka Barrage project in West Bengal.
On Friday, a large team of Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), state police, intelligence department, Farakka management authority and health workers conducted a mock drill or simulated exercise in several areas, including the bridge and railway line adjacent to the Farakka Barrage project in Murshidabad district of the state.
The only land connection between the north and south Bengal of the state is the bridge and railway line adjacent to the Farakka Barrage. If any untoward incident occurs at the barrage of the Farakka Barrage project, what should be done by the security personnel and the common people comes up in today’s mock drill.
The Farakka Barrage is already under tight security. The central army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), is in charge of security.
In this regard, CISF Commandant Mukesh Kumar, in charge of Farakka Barrage, said that in the current situation in the country, the central government has instructed all our security agencies to be alert. Not only is there danger on the border, but there is danger inside the country as well. This Farakka Barrage protects the connection between South Bengal and North Bengal. If any untoward incident happens here, it is very harmful for us. So, if any incident happens, what should be done jointly, this mock drill was held today by the multi-agency. Here, our shortcomings were looked at and corrected.
A few days ago, the Indian Army conducted various weapons exercises at the Teesta Firing Range in Bagrakote in Jalpaiguri district. Which is called ‘Tista Prahar’. Apart from the members of the Army’s field firing range on the banks of the Teesta river, Special Forces also participated in the exercise. The Indian Army released that video on May 15. How the army will use weapons in adverse situations on the battlefield was basically demonstrated in ‘Tista Prahar’. Shelling from mortars, sometimes firing from helicopters. Sometimes how to use drones was shown.
In Farakka, a mock drill was conducted with a fairly large team, although not on a large scale. In fact, the Farakka Barrage is a very sensitive area for the common people. In that case, there is a possibility of unpleasant incidents not only on the border, but also danger inside the country. It is said that this military exercise in Farakka is to deal with those unpleasant incidents. Source: Aaj Kal, ETV Bharat
