October 27, Kuala Lumpur: Chinese Premier Li Qiang attended the 28th ASEAN Plus China, Japan, and South Korea Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
At the outset, Premier Li congratulated Timor-Leste on its formal inclusion in the ASEAN family. He noted that cooperation among ASEAN, China, Japan, and South Korea has maintained strong momentum, reflecting the resilience and vitality of East Asia’s economy.
However, Li pointed out that the region is also facing rising difficulties and challenges due to complex global economic and trade dynamics, which have increased instability and uncertainty in development. Over the past few decades, East Asia has remained the world’s fastest-growing region, creating a series of “economic miracles” that continue to inspire and instill pride today.
Li emphasized that openness and cooperation are the valuable lessons learned and accumulated through experience. These principles, he said, must be cherished and upheld to ensure that they continue serving as major strengths and winning formulas for East Asia’s economic success.
“The miracle of East Asia is not a thing of the past—it is a living reality,” Li declared. He expressed China’s willingness to strengthen the alignment of development strategies with all partners, uphold openness and cooperation, further unleash economic potential, and create broader opportunities for growth.
Leaders of the participating countries agreed that since the establishment of the ASEAN Plus Three (China, Japan, and South Korea) cooperation framework, it has played a significant role in tackling challenges and advancing regional development, yielding tangible results.
