Children are the future of a nation. They are the citizens of the future, worthy representatives of leadership and a reflection of the potential of society. But the lives of these potential children are often plagued by various crises. Their basic needs like rights, security, health and education are neglected. Therefore, International Children’s Day is celebrated around the world to create awareness for the welfare of children.
Although Children’s Day is celebrated on different dates in different countries of the world, International Children’s Day is celebrated on June 1 in many countries, especially China, Russia, Vietnam, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Romania, etc. On the other hand, in Bangladesh, this day is usually celebrated on November 20 (Universal Children’s Day declared by the United Nations).
The context for celebrating International Children’s Day was developed through the World Conference on the Welfare of Children held in Geneva in 1925. It was at this conference that the importance of setting a day for the welfare of children was realized. Later, China started celebrating Children’s Day on June 1st for the first time and it gradually spread to other countries.
International Children’s Day is not just a formality; rather, it carries an important message. The main purpose of this day is to: ensure the protection and rights of children. Develop compassion and care for children. Establish children’s rights to education and healthcare. Protest against violence, exploitation and discrimination against children.
On this day, various countries and organizations organize various activities for children. Such as: special programs in schools, plays, songs, poetry recitations. Giving gifts to children.
Awareness rallies on children’s rights. Promotion through media and social media.
Discussion meetings on child protection by government and private initiatives.
International Children’s Day reminds us that it is the moral responsibility of all of us to ensure a healthy, safe and happy life for children. If we strive to protect the rights, dignity and future of children every day, rather than being limited to one-day formalities, then we can truly move towards a child-friendly world. Let the smile of a child be our daily inspiration.
