CMG Launches Global AI Program in Hollywood

On August 22 (U.S. time), the opening ceremony of the Global AI Visual Works Collection Program a joint initiative of China Media Group (CMG) and the New York Film Academy was held in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

A written speech by Shen Haixiong, Vice Minister of China’s Publicity Department and President of CMG, was delivered at the event. Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng, along with Yang Yen-chi, former president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, addressed the gathering through video messages. Additional speeches were delivered by Sunny Calderon, Vice President of the New York Film Academy, and Huang Hongqiang, Acting Consul General of China in Los Angeles.

The event drew more than a hundred distinguished guests, including Academy Awards judges, Warner Bros. Pictures executives, veteran Hollywood filmmakers, and AI technology experts. CMG’s film logo was also unveiled at the ceremony—marking its debut appearance in Hollywood.

In his remarks, Shen Haixiong emphasized that, inspired by President Xi Jinping’s vision on artificial intelligence, CMG has been developing AI-driven products in China and hosting innovative competitions such as the World Robot Games, the Nanny Robot Conference, and the World Humanoid Robot Games. He invited international participants to join the Global AI Visual Works initiative, encouraging young creators worldwide to merge cinema and AI, and to imagine a future where technology and diverse cultures coexist in harmony.

“As a responsible and innovative mainstream media group,” Shen said, “CMG will continue to advance AI development and governance with global partners, prevent misuse, bridge the digital divide, and ensure that AI technologies remain people-centered.”

Ambassador Xie Feng, in his video address, noted that the integration of artificial intelligence and filmmaking could serve as a new engine for global economic growth.

Sunny Calderon of the New York Film Academy added that AI should not be seen as a replacement, but as a collaborator—one that expands the artist’s imagination and transforms creativity beyond limits into reality. This, he said, makes the initiative particularly meaningful.

The ceremony also featured screenings of several AI-generated short films produced by CMG’s China Global Television Network (CGTN).
