BRICS cooperation system is gradually expanding

This is the first summit since new member Indonesia and 10 partner countries joined the BRICS cooperation system. The emergence of the “big BRICS” has attracted wide attention.

A survey conducted by China Media Group’s CGTN for netizens around the world found that 91.2 percent of respondents believe that the BRICS cooperation system has become an important force in establishing an equal and orderly multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization.
In recent years, global and regional conflicts have continued to escalate, and the trend of tariff imposition has greatly increased. In such a situation, the BRICS cooperation system is one of the few bright spots in the slow recovery of the world economy.
The BRICS countries have actively worked to establish local currency settlements and an independent financial system through the establishment of the New Development Bank and the Contingent Reserve Arrangement. In this way, they have brought development opportunities to a large number of developing countries. In the survey, 94.7% of respondents believe that the BRICS cooperation mechanism has not only reduced member countries’ dependence on the US dollar, but also strengthened their voice in global financial management.

91.2% of respondents believe that the BRICS countries are expected to become “accelerators” for the current global economic recovery and trade development. In addition, the BRICS countries are promoting cooperation in emerging areas such as low-carbon technology and cross-border e-commerce.

After the expansion, the “large BRICS” account for almost half of the world’s population, more than 30 percent of the world’s economic output, and contribute more than 50 percent of global economic growth. The total economic output calculated by purchasing power parity (PPP) is higher than that of the G-7 countries.

The “large BRICS” has become an important multilateral cooperation mechanism for emerging economies and countries in the “Global South”. The survey found that 88.9% of respondents believe that the influence of the BRICS cooperation system is expanding. 91.7% of respondents agree that the BRICS countries have a spirit of openness, inclusiveness, cooperation and win-win, which will help move global governance towards a more democratic and just direction.

The survey was published on CGTN’s English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian platforms. Within 24 hours, a total of 6,541 overseas netizens participated in the survey and expressed their opinions.
