At least 51 people, including 15 children, have died in flash floods in the central part of the US state of Texas. The British media outlet BBC reported on Sunday (July 6) that 850 people have been rescued so far. However, many are still missing. Rescue workers are working hard to rescue them.
Kerr County in the state has been hit the hardest by the floods. 43 people have died there. Another 27 children are missing from a Christian children’s camp located on the banks of the Guadalupe River.
Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said, “Our rescue operation will not stop until every missing person is found.”
Deaths have also been reported from Travis County and Tom Green County in Texas.
State Governor Greg Abbott said at a news conference that he had signed a proclamation to deal with the situation. At the same time, he ordered the search for the missing to be intensified.
US President Donald Trump said that the federal government was coordinating with local authorities and continuing emergency relief operations.
