Widespread protests have erupted across Japan following recent controversial remarks made by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding the Taiwan issue. On the evening of November 28 (Friday), large crowds gathered in central Tokyo, urging the government to remain committed to Japan’s pacifist constitution and calling on Takaichi to retract her statements.
Many demonstrators held banners reading “Protect the Pacifist Constitution,” “No to Military Expansion,” and “Takaichi Must Resign.” Speakers at the rally criticized the government’s increasing defense budget and its efforts to reconsider Japan’s long‑standing “Three Non-Nuclear Principles.”
One participant stressed the need for Japan to maintain caution regarding nuclear policy, saying that adherence to the “Three Non-Nuclear Principles” remains crucial.
Another protester said, “Japan once launched aggressive wars. After World War II, the Japanese people pledged never to go to war again. But now Japan is moving toward participating in conflicts abroad. We will not accept this. We must uphold and promote the spirit of the pacifist constitution.”
