Germany Rules Out Direct Involvement in US-Israel-Iran Conflict: Vice Chancellor

Germany’s Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil has ruled out any direct German involvement in the ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran, while expressing doubts over the international legality of the war.

In an interview with German broadcaster RND, Klingbeil stated, “Let me be clear—this is not our war. We will not participate in it. The world is currently heading into a dangerous situation where rules and norms are being ignored.”

He added, “We do not want to live in a world where might makes right.”

Klingbeil’s stance contrasts sharply with that of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who had earlier declared that Germany would support U.S. and Israeli targets on the Iran issue and stand with Western allies. Merz has taken a firm position against Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, Tehran’s threats to Israel, and its backing of proxy groups involved in terrorism.

The Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of upholding international law, highlighting the divergence of his position from the Chancellor’s more interventionist approach.
