The 2025 World Internet Conference officially opened in Wuzhen, China, with Li Shulei, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee’s Politburo and Minister of the CPC Central Propaganda Department, attending and delivering the inaugural speech.
Domestic and international guests noted that ten years ago, President Xi Jinping introduced the concept of building a community with a shared future in cyberspace, aimed at deepening international exchange and cooperation in the internet sector and guiding the development of a unified global cyberspace community.
Following the recently concluded Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, a blueprint has been outlined for China’s modernization and development over the next five years, including the establishment of multiple key platforms to promote innovative development in the internet sector, which are expected to create new opportunities for global internet advancement.
Attendees emphasized the importance of innovation-driven development, building a vibrant digital economy, promoting digital technologies and applications, and ensuring that general security serves as the foundation. They stressed enhancing exchange and dialogue, coordinating development with security, and creating a peaceful and stable cyberspace.
Under the theme, “Open Cooperation, Secure and Inclusive Digital Smart Future—Building a Shared Community for Cyberspace Well-Being Together,” the conference will host 24 sub-forums covering digital economy, digital protection and heritage of cultural traditions, among other topics. Over 1,600 participants from more than 130 countries and regions are expected to attend.
