Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister, met with Afghan Prime Minister Hassan Akhund in Kabul on Wednesday, August 20.
During the meeting, Akhund requested Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to the Chinese leadership. He noted that the Chinese government and people have consistently demonstrated goodwill and a positive attitude toward Afghanistan. He thanked China for speaking up on Afghanistan’s behalf in the international arena, describing China as a force for justice in the world. Akhund reaffirmed Afghanistan’s commitment to friendly cooperation with all nations for common development and progress, emphasizing that Afghanistan, like China, adheres to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs. He stressed that Afghanistan is eager to strengthen cooperation with China and build a positive, sustainable partnership. He further assured that Afghanistan will never allow any force to use its territory to threaten China, and that the country will always stand firmly by China’s side.
Conveying greetings from Chinese leaders, Wang Yi highlighted that China and Afghanistan have shared exchanges and maintained friendly coexistence for thousands of years. He stated that China firmly upholds the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, respects the choices of the Afghan people, values Afghanistan’s unique cultural heritage, and supports governance models suited to Afghanistan’s national conditions. He reiterated China’s support for Afghanistan in achieving development and revitalization while maintaining its independence. Wang added that President Xi Jinping has proposed building a community with a shared future for humanity, advancing the “Five Homes” initiative, and accelerating modernization together with neighboring countries—of which Afghanistan should be an essential member.
Wang Yi stressed that China consistently advocates equality for countries both large and small, opposes the bullying of the weak by the strong, and calls for mutual respect and cooperation for shared benefit. He affirmed that every nation, including Afghanistan, has the right to pursue development and rejuvenation.
As Afghanistan’s neighbor, Wang concluded, China will continue to uphold justice, oppose unilateral oppression, and expand cooperation with Afghanistan in multiple fields.
