Use of Force Violates International Law: Chinese Foreign Ministry

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning chaired a regular press briefing in Beijing on Monday, January 12. During the briefing, a reporter asked about recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who stated that the U.S. administration is closely monitoring the situation in Iran and has “very strong options” at its disposal. Reports suggest that the United States is considering a range of measures, including sanctions, cyber operations, and even potential military action. The reporter sought China’s response to these developments.

In reply, Mao Ning said that China has consistently opposed interference in the internal affairs of other countries and firmly supports the principle that the sovereignty and security of all nations must be fully respected and safeguarded. She emphasized that China opposes the use or threat of force in international relations, noting that such actions run counter to international law.

Mao further expressed China’s hope that all relevant parties will act with restraint and make greater efforts to promote peace and stability in the region, rather than escalating tensions through coercive measures.
