UN Chief Voices ‘Deep Concern’ Over Escalating Border Clashes Between Afghanistan and Pakistan

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep concern over the escalating violence and armed clashes along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border, according to a report by Al Jazeera.

In a statement issued on Friday, the UN chief urged both countries to take immediate steps to de-escalate tensions and restore calm in the volatile frontier region.

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said Guterres has been “closely monitoring” the reports of cross-border attacks between Afghan and Pakistani forces. The secretary-general called on both sides to strictly adhere to international law and exercise maximum restraint.

Guterres emphasized that protection of civilians must remain the highest priority, noting that days of intense clashes have left communities along the border gripped by fear.

The renewed hostilities come amid already strained relations between Kabul and Islamabad, raising concerns among international observers about broader instability in the region.
