UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an independent investigation into the killing of Palestinians near an aid distribution center in the besieged Gaza Strip. In a statement on Monday, UN Secretary-General Guterres said he was shocked by reports of Palestinians being killed and injured while seeking aid in Gaza on Sunday. He called for an immediate and independent investigation into the incident and called for those responsible to be held accountable.
Earlier, about 50 people were killed and at least 200 others were injured in an Israeli indiscriminate shooting of hungry and destitute Palestinians in Gaza while they were receiving aid, the Gaza Health Ministry said. The Middle East Monitor reported this news, Xinhua reported.
Israeli forces opened fire indiscriminately on hungry Palestinians who had gathered to receive aid in the al-Mawasi area, west of the southern Gaza city of Rafah, early Sunday morning. The casualties were caused by the Israeli Health Ministry. The so-called aid centers in Gaza have become Israeli death traps. Israeli forces are using new tactics in the name of distributing aid to carry out genocide.
US media outlet CBS says witnesses said that the people who had come to collect food were attacked from about 1,000 yards away. The attack site was near an aid distribution center run by an Israeli-backed organization.
Gaza resident Amr Abu Tayba said that there was shooting from all sides – from boats, tanks and drones. He said that he saw at least 10 bodies with bullet marks on their bodies. He also saw the injured, including many women. Amr Abu Tayba said that the scene was very horrific. People were transporting the dead and wounded to a makeshift field hospital in makeshift vehicles and handcarts.
However, the Israeli army said in a statement that it had not fired on any civilians at or near the scene. Initial investigations found no evidence of any such attack.
