Israel has undoubtedly committed war crimes in Gaza: Matthew Miller

Former US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller has commented that Israel has undoubtedly committed war crimes in Gaza. In a podcast interview with Sky News, he said, “I don’t think it’s genocide, but I have no doubt that Israel has committed war crimes.”

In the interview given on the podcast titled ‘Trump 100’ released on Monday, Miller opened up about the internal disagreements within the Biden administration and the various tensions in US policy on Gaza.

Matthew Miller served as the spokesperson for the US State Department from 2023 until the end of Biden’s term. His main responsibility was to present the US foreign policy position on various international issues, including Gaza and Ukraine, to the media.

In the interview, he was asked why he did not make this statement publicly while he was in government. In response, Miller said, “When you serve as a government spokesperson, you don’t have the opportunity to express personal opinions. You present the government’s position. At that time, the US government had not concluded that Israel had committed war crimes. It has not yet.”

While explaining his position on the question of war crimes, Miller said, “If a state deliberately violates the rules of war or acts so recklessly that it amounts to a war crime, then that also falls under the scope of a war crime.”

He said, “I think that in certain cases, war crimes have clearly been committed. And they were committed by members of the Israeli army and military.”

Matthew Miller also spoke about the Biden administration’s Gaza policy. According to him, there were “small and large” disagreements within the then administration regarding the US strategy and position centered on Israel.

Asked about President Biden’s relationship with then-US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Miller said unequivocally that there was tension between the two over the situation in Gaza and Ukraine. He also indicated that then-US Secretary of State Antony Blinken was upset with Biden over Gaza and Ukraine policy.

Miller’s comments came at a time when there has been renewed international criticism of Israel’s Gaza offensive and several human rights organizations are identifying the incidents as possible war crimes. Source: Sky News.
