U.S. Suspends Tariffs on China’s Shipbuilding Industry

The United States has suspended its Section 301 investigative measures on China’s shipbuilding and related industries — a move described by China’s Ministry of Commerce as a significant step toward mutual cooperation and an implementation of the consensus reached during recent China-U.S. trade talks in Kuala Lumpur.

According to a statement from the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office, the suspension took effect at 12:01 a.m. on November 10, halting for one year the additional tariffs and port fees previously imposed on Chinese vessels and shipbuilding materials, such as port cranes. In response, China has also suspended its corresponding retaliatory measures.

A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce said the decision reflects both sides’ willingness to work in harmony, adding that China remains open to continued dialogue based on mutual respect and equality. Beijing hopes the U.S. will help maintain fair competition in the global shipbuilding and maritime sectors, strengthening stability and predictability in the world economy.
