Two million people trapped in Gaza: UN

More than two million people are trapped in the Gaza Strip. A UN spokesperson said this. UN Secretary-General’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters that more than two million people are trapped in Gaza. The ongoing hostilities and the reduction in aid supplies have increased the level of psychological stress there. Especially the psychological stress of children is increasing day by day.

Citing the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Dujarric said that on March 2, Israel imposed a complete ban on the entry of trucks carrying humanitarian aid into the enclave. Since then, humanitarian supplies to the Strip have been almost completely reduced.

He also said that about 90 percent of the water supply system has been severely damaged.

Dujarric said, “We reiterate that as an occupying power, Israel has clear obligations under international law. This includes ensuring food, medical supplies and public health services. To deliver humanitarian aid when other supplies are cut off.

Regarding the West Bank, Dujarric said that thousands of residents have been displaced and unable to return home as the Israeli offensive in the north continues.

Since October 2023, more than 51,000 Palestinians have been killed in a brutal offensive by Israeli forces in Gaza, most of them women and children.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces genocide charges at the International Court of Justice for the Gaza war.
