New York, 28 July 2025 – Speaking at the “July Beyond Border” event at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN, Foreign Advisor H.E. Md. Touhid Hossain praised the transformative role of youth in Bangladesh’s recent democratic transition.
“One year ago, our youth ignited a nationwide movement for justice, transparency, and opportunity,” he said, referring to the student-led uprising that led to the fall of an autocratic regime and the formation of an interim government led by Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus.
Mr. Hossain highlighted key reforms undertaken since, including restoring institutional independence, repealing repressive laws, and overhauling the electoral system. Most notably, he emphasized how youth are now actively shaping policy and innovation in governance.
“Our story reflects global priorities like the UN Youth, Peace and Security agenda and the SDGs,” he noted. “When young people are trusted, they can transform societies.”
He concluded by urging nations to invest in youth-centered leadership to build a more peaceful and sustainable world.
