Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of the Serbian capital Belgrade in the largest gathering in decades.
These people took to the streets at the call of students.
On Saturday, students and workers faced riot police and supporters of President Aleksandar Vucic, according to the Reuters news agency.
Serbia has been rocked by months of anti-government protests after a railway station roof collapsed killing 15 people. The incident has raised allegations of widespread corruption and negligence against the government. The intensity of the protests against the popular Vucic, who has been in power as prime minister or president for 12 years, has increased.
“Today we will express our dissent… for a normal state, for the rule of law, we want to show how we are fighting corruption, lies, media pressure, oppression.”
The government, however, denies allegations of corruption and incompetence, saying Western intelligence agencies are supporting efforts to destabilize Serbia.
Police said a car drove into a group of protesters in a Belgrade suburb, injuring three people. A group of people attacked, injuring a student and a university lecturer.
Police said they had arrested 13 people in the overnight and early Saturday morning incidents. They attacked tractors belonging to pro-Vusic farmers parked around Pionirski Park.
