China’s modernization is being built upon the revolutionary spirit, President Xi Jinping has emphasized during his recent inspection tour in Guangdong Province.
Xi, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, underscored that Guangdong remains at the forefront of China’s reform and opening-up, serving as both a pioneer and testing ground for national development.
He called for thorough study and implementation of the guiding principles of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, urging comprehensive planning for the goals, missions, and measures of the next five years. He also emphasized accelerating the development of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area and achieving new progress in the nation’s modernization drive.
On November 7 and 8, Xi visited the cities of Meizhou and Guangzhou.
In the afternoon of November 7, Xi visited the Ye Jianying Memorial Park in Meizhou, where he laid a flower basket before the bronze statue of Ye Jianying and later toured the former residence of the veteran revolutionary.
“Our remarkable achievements today are built upon the foundations laid by earlier generations of revolutionaries, including Mao Zedong,” Xi said, stressing the importance of preserving and carrying forward the revolutionary spirit among Party officials and the public—especially the youth.
Pomelo, a signature agricultural product of Meizhou, became a focus of Xi’s discussion with local farmers and agricultural technicians. He pointed out that developing distinctive local industries is fundamental to advancing rural revitalization. He called for greater application of technology, deeper integration of agriculture, culture, and tourism, and the continuous extension of industrial chains to help increase farmers’ incomes.
As he bid farewell to local villagers, Xi reaffirmed that the CPC and the government will continue to strengthen supportive policies for old revolutionary base areas.
On the morning of November 8, Xi visited an exhibition in Guangzhou highlighting Guangdong’s coordinated progress in scientific and industrial innovation, and later listened to a work report from the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and the provincial government.
Xi commended Guangdong’s achievements across multiple sectors and provided key directives for future work.
He noted that implementing the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee constitutes a major political task for both the Party and the country in the current and coming period. As a leading economic province, Guangdong should set a benchmark in formulating and advancing the 15th Five-Year Plan, he added.
Xi also outlined crucial guidance for ensuring the comprehensive implementation of people-centered development policies and other national priorities.
