Repatriation of 288 BGP, army and other members of Myanmar who took refuge in Bangladesh

The repatriation process of 288 Myanmar BGP, army, immigration and other members who took refuge in Bangladesh due to the internal conflict in Myanmar was completed on Thursday morning.

The repatriation program was organized at Cox’s Bazar BIWTA Ghat. From March 11, 2024, they crossed the Naf river and the land border and took refuge in Bangladesh. For so long they were kept in a primary school in Naikshyongchari under the custody of BGB.

This repatriation program was carried out as per the decision taken in the inter-ministerial meeting held under the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to carry out the repatriation in consultation with Myanmar. Necessary activities for repatriation of BGP, Army, Immigration and other members of Myanmar have been completed with the help of Ministry of Home Affairs, Border Guard Bangladesh, Coast Guard, District Administration, District Police and other authorities.

The delegation of Myanmar arrived by ship on 24 April 2024, the identification process of BGP and other members of Myanmar who took refuge in Bangladesh at Naikshyongchari camp of BGB was completed with the full support of BGB. The necessary documentation process was completed. They were handed over to the BGP members who arrived by ship in the presence of representatives of Myanmar Embassy, ​​Ministry of Foreign Affairs and BGB stationed in Bangladesh.

It should be noted that so far this year more than 600 asylum seeking members of the Myanmar military have been provided asylum and return on humanitarian grounds. For the first time on February 15, 330 BGP and army personnel were sent back to Myanmar by ship.
