Bangkok, 26 April 2024:Thai Prime Minister Sretha Thavisin had a sincere private meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visiting Bangkok, bilateral discussions and an agreement, three memorandums of understanding and a letter of intent were signed between the two countries.
After the meeting at the Government House in the capital of Thailand on Friday afternoon, the Foreign Minister said in a press briefing. Hasan Mahmud informed this information.
In the presence of the prime ministers of the two countries, a visa exemption agreement for official passport holders, three memorandums of understanding on mutual cooperation in energy, tourism and customs and a letter of intent to start negotiations on a free trade agreement were signed.
Finance Minister of the country Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali, Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud, Ambassador appointed to Bangkok Mohammad Abdul Hai and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Thailand. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara was also present in the meeting.
Dr. Hasan said that the meeting between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Thailand’s Prime Minister Sretha Tavisin was held in a very sincere atmosphere. First they spoke privately, then bilateral meetings were held between the two countries. In the meeting Hon’ble Prime Minister discussed many issues including Rohingya problem in detail.
The two Prime Ministers have expressed deep interest in making Bangladesh’s fraternal and friendly relations with Thailand stronger, more multi-dimensional and broader, he said.
The foreign minister also said that Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina has called for Thai investment in 100 economic zones and IT villages of Bangladesh besides describing the development progress of Bangladesh. The businessmen of Thailand have also said to make a special economic zone for them in Bangladesh if necessary.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given shelter to Bangladesh, the approximately 1.3 million Rohingya people who were expelled from Myanmar. For them, the problems arising in Bangladesh were discussed in the meeting, said Dr. laugh
The foreign minister said that many Rohingyas have taken refuge in Thailand and many are still coming. Thailand is also burdened by these fleeing people. Both the Prime Ministers expressed interest in working together between the two countries to solve this problem.
The Thai Prime Minister was accompanied by the state guard of honor given to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina when she arrived at the Government House. Sheikh Hasina attended the state lunch hosted by the Prime Minister of Thailand as her courtesy.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Bangkok on Wednesday at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Thailand. Sheikh Hasina attended the 80th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNSCAP) at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok on Thursday. In his address there, the Prime Minister urged people to speak out against all forms of aggression and atrocities and to say ‘no’ to war. After the visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to return to the country on April 29.
