Powerful 6.7-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Eastern Indonesia, No Tsunami Threat

A powerful earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale struck off the eastern coast of Indonesia on Monday. However, authorities confirmed there is no threat of a tsunami.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter was located about 177 kilometers west of the city of Tual in Maluku province, at a depth of 80 kilometers (approximately 50 miles).

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported that although tremors were felt in coastal areas, there is no risk of a tsunami.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties or damage. Local authorities remain on alert and are closely monitoring the situation.

Indonesia, situated along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” frequently experiences earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
