China’s Communist Party (CPC) has expelled nine senior military officers amid allegations of corruption and breaches of party discipline. The announcement was confirmed on Friday by Chang Xiaokang, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Defense.
Among the expelled officials is He Weitong, a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC). The others include Miao Hua, He Hongchun, Wang Xiubin, Lin Xiangyang, Qin Shutong, Yuan Huachi, Wang Houbin, and Wang Chunming.
The CMC Discipline Inspection Commission, following a thorough investigation, reported that the officers were involved in serious financial corruption, which had significant and highly negative consequences for the military and the party.
In accordance with party regulations and national law, the Central Committee expelled the officials and referred their cases to the military prosecution authorities for criminal investigation and further legal action.
