IRI Delegation Arrives in Dhaka to Assess Bangladesh’s Electoral Environment

A delegation from the International Republican Institute (IRI) has arrived in Dhaka to assess the electoral environment and democratic processes ahead of Bangladesh’s upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.

Upon arrival on Monday afternoon, the delegation held a courtesy meeting with Md. Touhid Hossain, Foreign Affairs Adviser at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During their visit, the team is scheduled to meet with the Bangladesh Election Commission, political parties, government officials, and representatives from civil society.

Johanna Kau, Senior Director of IRI’s Asia-Pacific Division, said,

“This mission strengthens our commitment to supporting democratic processes in Bangladesh. Through direct engagement with various stakeholders, we aim to gain a clear understanding of electoral competition and citizen participation on the ground.”

The organization stated that following the mission, it will release a neutral assessment report, including recommendations on election preparedness, maintaining electoral integrity, and fostering a peaceful environment for the upcoming February polls.

Founded in 1984, IRI has conducted over 250 international election observation missions worldwide. The U.S.-based nonprofit, nonpartisan organization works to promote democracy and citizen participation globally.
