A seminar on mental health awareness and suicide prevention was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Public School and College in Rangpur, aiming to promote open conversations on psychological well-being among students.
The seminar was jointly organized by the Dr. Muhammad Fakhrul Islam Foundation and the China Bangladesh Friendship Center, with local support from the Beautiful Rangpur Foundation.
Teachers, students, and representatives from various social organizations participated in the program. The event was presided over by the Acting Principal of the institution, Professor Md. Mashiur Rahman. In his address, he emphasized the growing mental pressure faced by students and the importance of creating a supportive and understanding environment within educational institutions.
The keynote address was delivered by Md. Saddam Hossain Roni, Social Welfare Secretary of the China Bangladesh Friendship Center, Secretary General of the Dr. Muhammad Fakhrul Islam Foundation, and Founder of Talk Hope. He stated that suicide is not a choice but a symptom of deep psychological distress, and stressed the importance of listening without judgment and encouraging individuals to seek help.
Founder of the Beautiful Rangpur Foundation, Montasir Pervege Ankur, highlighted that mental health is a fundamental human right and that community-based initiatives play a vital role in building a compassionate society.
Chief Coordinator of Talk Hope, Kanan Faisal, urged students not to hesitate in seeking support, noting that asking for help is a sign of strength rather than weakness. Rahatul Jannat, Co-Founder of Projotne – A Mental Health Initiative, also addressed the audience, emphasizing self-care, emotional awareness, and mutual empathy.
The seminar covered topics such as academic stress, early warning signs of mental health challenges, suicide prevention strategies, and available support systems. An interactive question-and-answer session followed, where students actively shared their thoughts and concerns.
Organizers expressed their commitment to continuing similar mental health awareness programs across educational institutions in different parts of the country.
