Julie Bishop Meet with The Chief Advisor

Julie Bishop, a special envoy to the United Nations Myanmar, met at the state guest house in Dhaka on Sunday with the chief adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus. They discussed new ways to resolve the Rohingya crisis and to establish new donors for more forcibly displaced Rohingya in the southeast camps in Bangladesh.

The chief adviser said that the UN will organize an international conference on the Rohingya crisis later this year and he urged Julie Bishop to play a central role in this important meeting.
Professor Yunus sought the help of the UN special envoy to tackle the humanitarian crisis in the Civil War Rakhine state and to prevent the flow of new Rohingya refugees from West Myanmar.

During the meeting, they also discussed the challenges of the new donor organization for the Rohingya refugees due to changes in US foreign policy.

Bishop said it is important to turn the UN Rohingya conference into a major success, as it will play an important role in the permanent solution to the long -standing Rohingya crisis. He also mentioned that UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres will visit Bangladesh in mid -March and will visit the Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar.
