Israeli Prime Minister Calls Albanese a ‘Traitor’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sharply criticized Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, accusing him of betraying Israel and neglecting the interests of his country’s Jewish community.

Recently, Australia announced its recognition of the State of Palestine. Israel reacted angrily to Australia joining the decision, following the lead of the United Kingdom, France, and Canada. Tensions escalated further when Australia canceled the visa of Israeli right-wing leader Simcha Rothman, stating that its doors are not open to those who incite hatred or division.

In retaliation, Israel revoked visas for Palestinian representatives to Australia and announced that future government visa applications would undergo stricter scrutiny. Netanyahu claimed that this policy would mark Albanese in history as an example of weak leadership.

Australian Minister for Immigration Tony Burke said that Netanyahu’s anger stems from Australia’s recognition of Palestine. According to Burke, true strength does not lie in killing people or creating food crises. Prime Minister Albanese also called the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Gaza “unacceptable.”

Meanwhile, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid strongly criticized Netanyahu’s policies and remarks, calling him the “most toxic politician” in the Western world.

According to United Nations data, 147 out of 193 member states have recognized Palestine to date. Gaza’s Ministry of Health reported that over 62,000 people have died in the ongoing conflict since October 7, 2023.
