Michael Ryan, the executive director of the World Health Organization, has called the situation “atrocious” and said that children in Gaza are starving.
The Gaza Health Ministry has called on the United Nations to declare a famine in Gaza, where health officials say 92 percent of children and pregnant women are now suffering from acute malnutrition.
Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Gaza described Israel’s 60-day blockade as “deliberately suffocating” the civilian population.
In a separate report, the Anadolu news agency said the total death toll in the territory since Israel’s genocidal aggression on the Gaza Strip in October 2023 has risen to 52,418, the Gaza Health Ministry said on Thursday.
A further 77 people injured in the Israeli attack were taken to hospitals in Gaza, the ministry said in a statement. This brings the number of injured since the start of the conflict to 118,091. Many people are still under the rubble and on the streets, but rescuers have not been able to reach them.
