Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for a missile strike targeting U.S. military aircraft stationed at Aqaba Airport in Jordan, amid escalating tensions across the Middle East. The group said several American military aircraft were damaged in the attack.
However, the claim has not been independently verified, and neither Washington nor Amman has officially confirmed or commented on the reported incident.
In a statement, the IRGC said the strike was carried out as the 21st phase of “Operation Nasr-2.” It claimed the target was identified using intelligence provided by local sources in Jordan.
The statement further asserted that similar locally sourced intelligence had been used in a previous attack on a U.S. military base in Azraq, Jordan. No independent evidence has been presented to substantiate the IRGC’s claims regarding damage or casualties in that incident.
Meanwhile, following reports of explosions in several Iranian cities, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that it had conducted airstrikes inside Iran for the ninth consecutive night.
According to the U.S. military, the operations are intended to safeguard freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route, and to degrade Iran’s military capabilities.
Although the United States and Iran signed a peace understanding in June, reportedly brokered by Pakistan, exchanges of military strikes have intensified again in recent weeks. Iran says its attacks on U.S. military facilities in the region are in response to continued American military operations.
Analysts warn that unless the situation is brought under control, the conflict could expand further across the Middle East. They also stress the importance of independently verifying claims made by both sides in the conflict.
