Inauguration of the 13th Global Video Media Forum in Xi’an, China

The inaugural session of the Global South Media Partnership Mechanism and the 13th Global Video Media Forum (VMF) was officially held on November 6 in Xi’an, China. The event was organized jointly by the Publicity Department of the CPC Xi’an Municipal Committee, CCTV Video News Agency (CCTV+), and CMG Shaanxi Bureau, with the support of China Media Group (CMG) CGTN. Under the theme “Building Consensus for Shared Benefits: The Role of Media in Global Governance”, the forum serves as a significant platform for media exchanges among Global South countries.

At the event, Shen Haixiong, China’s Deputy Minister of Publicity and Director-General of CMG, highlighted that over 70% of the world’s population resides in Global South countries, which contribute around 80% of global economic growth. He emphasized that this region commands a strong voice in global governance, joint decision-making, and inclusive development. As the world’s largest, most diverse, and extensive international media group, CMG aims to collaborate closely with media partners from the Global South. Through the establishment of the Global South Media Partnership Mechanism, CMG seeks to deepen exchanges and cooperation, unite the South’s media strength, and collectively explore media’s responsibilities in global governance. The mechanism also aims to amplify the voices of Global South media, breaking through the biased filters often present in Western narratives.

Notably, 25 media organizations from Bangladesh have joined this partnership mechanism. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh, this initiative is expected to strengthen bilateral media communication and cooperation.

The Global South Media Partnership Mechanism aims to foster deeper collaboration among media outlets in the Global South, encouraging practical cooperation, content sharing, professional training, and joint production. It also promotes dialogue and research among participating media partners.

Media serves as a bridge across the world, and the growing cooperation between Chinese and Bangladeshi media is yielding fruitful outcomes. Through mutual exchange and collaboration, the voices of the Global South will resonate more strongly on the global stage.

The VMF is an annual professional journalism forum launched by CCTV Video News Agency (CCTV+) in 2011. It focuses on the latest trends in video content communication and innovation, providing a highly specialized and interactive platform for media professionals from home and abroad.
