France to recognize Palestine as an independent state

France will recognize the state of Palestine and that within a few months. President Emmanuel Macron has announced such a plan. He said that this step may be taken at the UN conference to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in New York next June.

President Emmanuel Macron said, “We have to move towards recognition and we will do it in the next few months.” He added, “Our goal is to chair a conference with Saudi Arabia in June, where we can discuss with the various parties and formally recognize the state of Palestine.”

Macon said, “I will do it. Because I believe that at some point it will be the right thing to do. Which will give all the Palestinian parties the opportunity to recognize Israel in turn, which many of them do not do.”

France has long been in favor of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But formal recognition of a Palestinian state by Paris would mark a major policy shift and Israel is likely to oppose the move.
